Keyword Density - On Page SEO

Keyword density is a measure of the number of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page, compared to the total number of words on the page. It is typically expressed as a percentage.

For example, if a keyword appears 10 times on a web page with a total of 100 words, the keyword density would be 10%.

In the early days of SEO, it was believed that a higher keyword density would help improve a website’s search engine rankings. However, this is no longer the case. In fact, having a high keyword density can now be considered as a spamming technique, known as “keyword stuffing”, and can result in penalties from search engines.

Search engines now use complex algorithms to understand the relevance and context of the content on a web page. Therefore, it’s important to aim for a natural use of keywords throughout the page and in the context of the overall topic.

As a general rule of thumb, keyword density should be kept between 1-3% for primary keywords and 0.5-1% for secondary keywords. However, it’s important to remember that there is no set keyword density that guarantees high rankings and that the relevance and quality of the content should be the main focus.
